Rinnai tankless error codes

Type the code flashing on your controller. Each page tells you what it means, what you can safely check and when it’s a job for a pro.

Code names are from Rinnai’s diagnostic code manual (document 100000652). Explanations are written by us. Not affiliated with Rinnai.

Before you reset

Most codes clear when you turn the heater off and on at the controller – but a code that keeps coming back is telling you something. Codes for overheating (14, 16, 57, 58) and flammable vapors (FE) mean stop and call a technician, not reset and carry on.

Frequently asked questions

What does Rinnai code 11 mean?
No ignition: the burner didn’t light. First check that the gas valve to the heater is open and, on propane, that the tank isn’t empty.
What does LC mean on a Rinnai?
Scale is building up in the heat exchanger. The heater needs flushing (descaling) following the procedure in the owner’s manual.
